Looking for super-cute Mother’s Day Cards, perfect for very young kids to make?

If so, these adorable cards are the perfect solution!

These cards are made of paper squares sandwiching a printable message that each child can personalize for his or her mom or grandmother.

They are easy enough for preschoolers to make, with help on the writing and tying parts. And, the younger the kids are, the funnier and sweeter their answers will be!

Materials Needed for Mother’s Day Cards for Young Children:

  • 8.5 by 11 inch piece of light weight cardstock or copy paper for covers
  • 8.5 by 11 inch piece of copy or scrapbook paper
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Markers, crayons, colored pencils – whatever you have on hand to write with
  • Ribbon, twine, string, yarn – anything that can be tied

Instructions for Mother’s Day Cards:

1. Print the printable interior page onto 8.5 x 11 inch copy paper or scrapbook paper (thin paper works best).

2. Depending on the age of the kids, you could have them cut out the long rectangles, or cut them out yourself. Do not cut any of the interior gray lines.

Don’t forget to cut out the tiny gift tag, too.

3. Fill out the strips by having older kids write the answers to the questions or recording younger kids’ answers. You can also encourage kids to color the strips.

4. Fold the long strips, alternating accordion style, on the gray lines. Make sure that the “Mothers (or Grandmothers) are a gift from God” page is facing up, on the bottom. Also, make sure that the front page is facing up.

5. Tape or glue the front of the blank page of the second strip to the back of the last page of the first strip.

6. Cut two 2.5 inch squares from paper as the “covers”. Tape or glue the bottom of the accordion to the top of one square, as pictured above.

7. Decorate the top of the other square to look like a present but taping paper strips or ribbon or by using crafter’s tape to mimic the wrapping on a present. You could also have kids decorate the tops with crayons or makers, as desired.

8. Place the top of the card on top of the stack. Do not tape or glue it. Punch a small hole in the gift tag and thread a piece of ribbon, yarn, twine, string – whatever you have on hand- through it. Tie the ribbon or twine around the card to hold it together. You could also tape the gift tag into place instead of tying it if you do not have a small hole punch.
