Spring Pencil Spinner Craft: Your kids will love making their very own spinners – and learning verses from Psalm 1 – with this joyful spring- themed craft!
Way too often, we as teachers see crafts as a time filler – but I don’t think very many kids like to make crafts just to fill time. They want to make something that is pretty to look at, that they can give away, or that they can play with!
That’s why these pencil spinners are the perfect craft – they are both pretty and fun to play with after they are made. Your kids will love blowing these spinners or watching them spin outside in the breeze.
Materials Needed for the Pencil Spinner Craft:
- One pencil with an attached eraser per child
- One thumbtack per child
- One copy of the spinner page, printed double sided, per child
- Scissors
- Glue
- Hole Punch (optional)
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils, if desired
Directions:
Cut the spinner square out along the solid black lines.
At the corners, cut into the spinner along the diagonal lines, stopping at the end of the line.
Use the hole punch to punch a hole at the four gray dots on the outside of the spinner. If you don’t have a hole punch, you can use the pin to punch a hole once you bring the points together.
Gently bring the points of the spinner together, so that the pictures from the opposite side now show on the front. Overlap the points slightly, stacking the gray dots or the holes so that the pin can go through all layers. Use a small drop of glue to glue the points to the center. (This helps the spinner spin better.) You will have to hold the points for a minute to allow the glue to set.
Carefully push the thumbtack through the gray dots or through the holes. If you have young students, an adult should do this part. Once the pin is through all holes and the back of the spinner, insert the pin into the pencil eraser. Do not push all the way through, just enough to secure the spinner to the pencil.
Blow from the side or front of the spinner to make it spin.
