Do your kids ever get bored during church services?

A Typical Sunday Morning…

It was a typical Sunday morning. My family was sitting quietly in church while our pastor preached.

But, at some point, I began to have that nagging feeling that my kids weren’t paying attention.

I glanced over and saw my son discreetly playing with some legos he had smuggled to church in his pocket, completely tuned out to the sermon. One of my daughters was randomly drawing, while my other daughter squirmed in her seat. Then she asked for a stick of gum. Then she needed a kleenex. Then she desperately needed to use the bathroom.

We were in church, but my kids weren’t learning from God’s Word, and I felt frustrated and discouraged, wondering if church attendance was even worth the effort.

I knew I HAD to do something different to help my kids actually pay attention to the church sermon.

Let’s face it: Sitting through a church service can be hard for kids.

  8. Hi Anna….. On frugalcouponliving.com, I saw your sermon notes. The free sermon notes on there shows an “at home challenge”. I downloaded and even bought some, but I cannot find the one which contains the “at home challenge, but I cannot find it.
    Please help. I love that part of the sermon notes….. takes it one step further and takes the message home.

    1. Hello, Sheila. The sermon notes with the “at home challenge” were an older version. The new version includes the same questions in the “at home challenge”, but it was renamed “this week…”. That section is still meant to be completed at home. I hope that helps! May God bless you. – Anna Joy

  10. As Children’s Coordinator of my church, I make a bulletin based on the same scripture as the Pastor. It is a great way for families to discuss the sermon over lunch. It is nice to have a different style bulletin for the children. Thank you very much!

  15. You are such a blessing. I’m very new to teaching at church. My husband and I both teach 3rd – 5th graders on Sunday Church School, and your resources are amazing! You are God sent. Time is very limited for me as I’m attending classes at the university, and I have a little one of my own. I usually spent hours looking for ways to make sure my kids leave with the message in their hearts and minds. I wonder if we were clear, and the sermon notes are perfect for my own feedback and for parents, too. No more wondering! Thank you for blessing others with your talent!

  19. Anna, you are blessed with a talent of creating the most beautiful and very useful Sermon Notes Pages. I printed them and started handing one or two out to those who wanted to make notes. The response I had from the parents were amazing. This Sunday, I printed them all and handed them out to everyone. Needless to say, the children are super excited and they feel so important. This is definitely helping our children live the Word not only on a Sunday, but during the whole week. Thank you for blessing us with your wonderful creations.
